FOO KWEE HORNG
Foo Kwee Horng (Art Foo) turned to full-time painting in 2010 after having been an art teacher for 15 years. Apart from painting, he does part-time teaching to teachers and students of mainstream school and is an external supervisor for the National Institute of Education (Singapore) art teachers. He is also a regular volunteer at Colours of Cambodia, Siem Reap. As a former trained social worker before turning to teaching and now a full-time artist, he feels that art does not only need to look good but it can be used to do good.
In 2014, Foo held his 4th solo exhibition (in Singapore) and donated all the sales proceeds to The Riverkids, a non-profit organization based in Phnom Penh. This year, he hopes to again raise funds through his paintings. The exhibition will be at the Himawari Hotel, Phnom Penh in June and all the sales proceeds will be donated to St. John Phnom Penh, a non-profit organization.
His paintings are collected by private individuals, corporations (The Fullerton Hotels, Ng Teng Fong Hospital) and schools and government ministries (Ministry of Foreign Affairs). His painting “Dancing in the land of snow” was commissioned by the MFA and was presented to His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni in 2016. He is currently working on another commission by the Himawari Hotel to Her Majesty Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk.
